Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
However incredible it may seem, some have been influenced to believe that, in the end (of this present world), when all is said and done, that there will only be 144,000 people who actually attain salvation. An attempt to give credence to such a teaching is made by citing or quoting the New Testament biblical scripture of Revelation 7:4 which reads, "and I heard the number of them which were sealed (by God). And there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel."
The passage goes on to name the twelve tribes of Israel and teaching that there will be twelve thousand sealed from each one. One might conclude that believing that only 144,000 people will end up being saved is not so contrary to scripture after all. They may consider that the Bible does indeed say that there will be few that find salvation (Matthew 7:14). However, conclusions that have been reached after considering only part of God's word on a subject, leads to anti-biblical beliefs, especially when even that part has been taken out of context.
Another serious mistake that many people make is neglecting to read scripture for themselves. This alone would clear up so many misunderstandings, reveal deliberate twisting of scripture, and blatant lies about the Bible does and does not say. A prime example of this is seen in the ridiculous conclusion that only 144,000 people will be saved based on Revelation 7:14. In this case, light is easily shed on a dark teaching because one is not even required to look further than the same scripture used to promote such a ludicrous teaching.
The very same passage, after naming the twelve tribes of Israel, says, in the ninth verse, "after this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands. And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb" (Revelation 7:9-10).
If the multitude of those who received salvation was so great that no man could count (number) it, why would anyone preach or believe that they numbered 144,000?
