The Fool Has Said in His Heart that There Is No God: Psalm 14:1
It's not difficult to understand that the scriptures of Romans 1:19-20 and Psalm 14:1 cited further down in this article are letting us know that all the creation around us is evidence there is a Creator. But why or how is it evidence?
An intelligent individual knows that anything that has structure and order also has a creator. One minister made an impacting point when he reminded the atheist that when he sees a painting, he knows someone painted it. Some painter somewhere created that painting. He would not dare say that it has no creator just because his eyes don't see the painter. How does he know the painting did not just come into existence? Because it has structure and order. Well, some works of "art" lack structure and order, but you get the picture. When an atheist sees a building, he knows it has a builder. How does he know? Because it has order and structure. When he sees an automobile, he does not say that it just came into existence. He knows there's a manufacturer, or creator behind the vehicle. When he sees another person, he does not say that he will refuse to believe in the existence of that individual's parents until he sees them. Why? Because that individual's body has structure and order. The same can be said of any and everything in our world. If it is done, somebody did it.
The Foolishness of Atheism Clearly Revealed in Romans 1:19-20 and Psalm 14:1
In the biblical passage of Romans 1:19-20 we read, "What may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse." (Romans 1:19-20)
The same scripture of Romans 1:19 in the Living Paraphrased Bible says, "The truth about God is known to them (people) INSTINCTIVELY." The universe and every physical thing in it, including man and all the heavenly bodies are visible, tangible and audible evidence of the existence of the Creator. Again, why do we say that? What compels us to reject that everything came from a big bang? The answer is very simple: It lies in the fact that there is order, structure, form and great complexity to everything in nature. This is why man doesn't even fully understand the physiology of his own brain. It's no wonder there's so much in the world he cannot understand. Nevertheless, he does have the capacity to know when even the unknown has order and structure. It is to this logic and "instinct" that Romans 1:19-20 refers.
Why then does the atheist not say, "Hmm, earth has shape, structure, form and order. Therefore, it has a Creator. I might not know anything about the Creator. I might not understand the Creator. I've never seen the Creator. But I know there is one, because behind everything with form, shape, order and structure is a creator. Until the atheist chooses to act with intelligence, he will answer the description of atheists we find in Psalm 14:1, which says, "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God'".
A Message to Atheists
Please do not take this article as an insult just because we have supplied the scripture of Psalm 14:1, which calls anyone a fool who says in his heart, "There is no God." All of us have said and done foolish things. Intelligence is learning from our mistakes, and turning away from error and foolishness when we are presented with the truth. We have a choice. But remember, there are grave consequences for choosing to reject truth. God's Word is truth (St. John 17:17), which has never been refuted. This is why more and more scientists are receiving the Lord Jesus as their Savior.
We've heard atheists say that there can't be a God, considering all the turmoil and suffering in the world. Our response to that: Not understanding God's ways, and denying His existence are two very different things. Many of us believers in Jesus have been perplexed regarding some of the ways of our God. That doesn't mean we resort to the foolishness of atheism by denying His existence. If you want to understand truth, God will teach you. And we will support you in your learning. No one can force you to receive Jesus. However, we read, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongues shall confess to God." (Romans 14:11).
