Only the names have been changed, and the location of the events are not divulged. Whether you like to read thought-provoking material, are a facilitator of group activities, a Sunday school teacher, a Bible teacher, a pastor, or a Christian believer in Jesus who enjoys learning to apply the scriptures of the Holy Bible to real life events; we believe you will be engaged as you ponder and respond to the two questions we've included after each story. Start a discussion on any of them, or jump right into one that's already started. Also, please watch for our soon-to-come series of true horror stories, which can be used as a study of the paranormal from a biblical perspective. But for now, let's jump right into these three real life stories!
Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!
Evelyn’s heart pounded as she looked up at the lights shot out by the thugs who laid in wait for her in the blackness of the hall. They knew she’d be coming home soon.
Three, five, seven, nine, eleven! She was now at the top of the stairs, her long legs having spanned three steps with every desperate leap toward the safety of her apartment. Her left finger felt for the keyhole. Her right hand slipped the key in, turned the knob, and slammed the door.
Where were they now? The rattling of the knob seconds later answered her question.
Questions To Ponder:
1. Did Evelyn make a wise decision when she attempted to run up the stairs in the dark, knowing she was in imminent danger of being attacked?
2. Did the hand of God spare Evelyn from being attacked, and possibly murdered? If so, why?
I Went Out With A Bang
“It's time to accept Jesus as your Lord, young man.”
“Yes, I know, Pastor. The Lord's dealing with me,” Floyd said, lowering his head to glance at Pastor Taylor's watch.
His buddies would be there in only ten minutes.
“Don't worry. I'll come walking into church soon,” he reassured while thinking, “I gotta party hearty one more time.”
The next day, Dr. Eiler informed his patient he'd have to amputate half of his foot, wounded by a stray bullet at the bar.
“Hi Pastor. I can't come walking, but here I come limping to receive Jesus.”
Questions To Ponder:
1. The actual individual represented as Floyd in this story limped for the rest of his life. Was there some divine message in what happened to him the very last night he'd go to a bar?
2. Should Floyd have sought the Lord for healing of his foot, or simply be grateful he was not killed during the shooting?
The Hand of God Spared My Hands
Frankie’s weary body refused to obey the alarm that told her it was time to rise for work. This time the need for more than three hours of sleep won the fight against the need for money.
“Frankie called in sick. I want you to run her machine today,” Mr. Lake said to Margaret.
“Frankie, you’d better be glad you called in sick yesterday. That faulty machine fell on Margaret’s hands, crushing her bones, and frying her skin!” Beth grimaced as she spoke of Margaret’s piercing and hideous screams that permeated the laundry the day Frankie missed work.
Questions To Ponder:
1. Did the hand of God protect Frankie? If so, why didn't the same hand of God protect Margaret?
2. In real life, the individual represented as Frankie lived according to Christian principles. The real life “Margaret” did not live a moral life, according to the Bible. Could this have had anything to do with what happened?
