Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí.
Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater, denn durch mich!
While much has been written on the subtle and crafty alterations of God's word in the new Bible "translations", the very useful Living Bible Paraphrased has been overlooked. Is it much different from a commentary on the Bible? It is in many ways.
Exhaustive biblical commentaries certainly have their place, but a living Bible paraphrased tends to be a lot more neutral in its
explanations and interpretation of scripture.
Its uniqueness lies in the fact that its main goal is not necessarily to interpret scripture, but rather to paraphrase the biblical writings. It doesn't claim to be a translation of scripture; therefore, the reader should bare in mind that whatever the paraphrased Bible says is to be taken for what it is--a summary and not a word for word translation.
The summarization offers the advantage of focusing specifically on the message as a whole, allowing the Bible student to focus on particular words. Grasping the general message can be vital in drawing one's attention to key words and phrases in scripture. Likewise, the thorough understanding of keywords and phrases often facilitates the comprehension of the big picture.
Another huge advantage of studying with the living Bible paraphrased as opposed to a commentary, even an "exhaustive" one, is the coverage of every scripture. Many commentaries cleverly skip over those scriptures that very few people can explain satisfactorily, based on what the rest of scripture says. A good living Bible paraphrased, paraphrases all scripture so readers get some idea of what the passage is saying in its entirety.
