Does Federal Express Shipping Really Deliver to P.O. Boxes? No!

path.jpg

Have you seen advertising campaigns by Federal Express Shipping that tell you that you can now ship merchandise to post office boxes? If so, learn the truth behind such a claim; and avoid some very unpleasant surprises. An Amazon.com seller heard such a claim and acted on that erroneous information (erroneous at the time of the writing of this content - March 19th, 2014). He, and his customer would soon find out that there is no such thing as Fed Ex Shipping to a post office box!

The customer purchased an item from the seller through Amazon.com and chose standard shipping through the United States Postal Services (USPS). She also gave only her post office box as the shipping address since she does not want mail or packages to be delivered to her home in a neighborhood where items can easily come up missing. Thinking that her package would arrive safely at her P.O. box, she waited worry-free for her item.

To her surprise when she went to leave home to run an errand, she opened the door to find a large box sitting in the middle of the front porch. Her name and telephone number were exposed to any one of the "shady" neighbors who could have walked upon to her porch. The sticker simply said that the address had been "corrected" to the street address. So, thinking that the post office was behind the so-called correction, she went to inquire as she thanked God that she happened to be home when the packaged was just left out in the open where it could have easily been stolen or damaged.

At the post office she learns that Federal Express Shipping is the "service" that left her package with such carelessness. So, she spoke to the Amazon.com vendor to find out why the package had been sent through Federal Express Shipping instead of the regular postal system as she had clearly requested. She was informed by the sellor that Fed Ex Shipping had recently launched a campaign in which they highlighted the lie that they deliver to post office boxes. So, the vendor thought he would save some money by shipping through Federal Express Shipping, especially since they now "deliver" to a P.O. box.

Federal Express Shipping Gives an "Answer"

Such a response from the seller, who did absolutely nothing wrong or dishonest, prompted her to call Fed Ex. After speaking with a representative who provided no answers, she asked to be transferred to a supervisor. When asked how did Fed Ex locate her address, and why was her package sent to her home when she clearly specified that it was to go to the post office box, the rude supervisor unmasked the truth of what had taken place.

"We do not ship to post office boxes." This was the response to why the address had been "corrected". In response to how they had obtained the home address, the representative said, "We have a database from which we can find out the home address from the post office box." Hmmmm, according to the post office, they do not give out anyone's home address. So, from where did Federal Express Shipping obtain the information they have obtained? And, if they still do not ship to post office boxes, why would would such a thing have been said in their advertising campaign?

The lady, justifiably angry, explained that Federal Express Shipping had no right to totally disregard her request to receive the merchandise she paid for at her post office box. She paid for the item; and she paid the seller to have it shipped. And, had it been stolen, damaged, or had someone retrieved her name and telephone number from the Federal Express Shipping label, she is the one who would have suffered the loss. The rude representative simply responded that that is how they operate. In other words, never mind that the customer specifically gave his or her post office box as the shipping address. We will use our database to do what we want to do and send it to the customer's home address, whether it gets stolen or damaged by weather. His response easily equates to, "I couldn't care less about what happens to your merchandise." The fact that Federal Express Shipping leaves someone's package outside exposed to their neighbors, who might be enemies, and to the elements, proves that the company is totally self-serving without even an ounce of concern for customer service or even common decency and respect.

If you are a seller and shipper of merchandise, or if you purchase by mail, phone, or Internet, you might want to keep in mind that you are taking a risk using the Federal Express Shipping company. The customers of Amazon.com can rate the services of every seller on the site after every single purchase. If a seller risks shipping through Fed Ex, and the customer does not receive his or her item or receives it damaged from the elements, you might just be given low marks for your service simply because you used Federal Express Shipping. Most buyers pay close attention to seller ratings before they purchase.

Most companies will continue to do what is profitable for them regardless of the headaches it causes even the people who paid them to deliver a service, unless the people refuse to go along with it. If something similar has happened to you, take the time to inform others, lodge a complaint, and refuse to give your business to companies who don't give service. They might not ever truly care about customer service, but they do care about losing business as the money in their pockets certainly is what concerns them.

The Third Man by Angela Sheffield Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
