Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
What is known as cohabitation nowadays was known as "shacking up" in previous times. What is the definition of cohabitation? According to Web Definitions it is: the act of living together and having a sexual relationship (especially without being married). What does the Word of God say about what is so popularly accepted in these modern times? Fornication is having sexual relations outside of the commitment of marriage. Therefore, it cannot be separated from the definition of cohabitation.
Rarely do Christian daily devotions deal with "heavy" topics such as this one. However, we believe that followers of Jesus seeking to grow in their walk with Lord, and to lead others to Christ, should be informed with what God's word says about the various ways of life in today's society.
The apostle Paul wrote, "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body" (1 Cor. 6:18).
Many people attempt to put the sin of fornication in the same category as other sins, saying that sin is sin. However, We have just seen that the Bible clearly explains that the sin of fornication is one that is committed against one's own body, unlike other sins that are WITHOUT the body.
Everyone has sinned and we believe it is safe to say that even believers in Jesus commit some sin from time to time. But, there is a difference in willfully choosing to live in sin, and committing an occasional sin. Cohabitation is choosing to LIVE in sin. No true follower of Christ chooses to live in sin.
"Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, LIVE any longer therein" (Rom. 6:1-2).
One of the characteristics of Christian daily devotions is to inspire a true and/or a closer walk with God. Have you been a supporter of cohabitation? Do you know someone who has--someone with whom you've had the opportunity to share the gospel? The Lord is a merciful and forgiving God, if we repent. He also commands his servants to preach his word--all of it, not just about his goodness, but also about his severity towards those of us who refuse to obey him (Rom. 11:22).
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
