The True Identity of Saint Death (San La Muerte)
Note. In the Bible, the word "Lord", with a capital "S" refers to the Lord God. This is why, "lord", with a lower case "s", refers to Saint Death in this article.
The true identity of the entity known as Saint Death, Saint Skeleton, and the lord of Death, among other names, is clearly revealed by the key word in his names and titles--death. In the Spanish language these titles translate to: San La Muerte, San Esqueleto, and señor De La Muerte, respectively. It is said that, "There comes a time when every living creature must leave this world through him." In other words, he is an angel of death. Once his identity is unmasked, nothing else we can learn about Saint Death matters. So, we are focusing exclusively on the fact that he is believed to be the angel of death in service to God. Let's see what the word of God says about death, about Saint Death that is. If you choose to hold on to the worship of Saint Skeleton after you've learned the truth, you will no longer do it in ignorance.
The Attributes and Powers of Saint Death Compared to the Truth of God's Word
It is said, "There comes a time when every living creature must depart this world through him (San La Muerte)." In the Bible we read, "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death..." (Hebrews 11:5). If Saint Skeleton is the lord of death, how is it that Enoch was able to "cheat" death? And, Stephen, a faithful servant of God, as he was dying, spoke directly to Christ and said, "...Lord Jesus, receive my spirit" (Acts 7:59). He did not speak to Saint Death; he spoke to the Creator of his spirit. We read, "And he (Stephen) kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep" (Acts 7:60).
Take notice of an extremely important point that was made. The scripture says that Stephen "fell asleep." It does not say that he died. When true servants of Christ depart this world, they are not dead in the eyes of God, rather they are only asleep in Jesus. They sleep because they will be raised to eternal life. That's how strongly God rejects the permanency of the death of his servants. Does Saint Death ever speak of the resurrection in Christ?
And, what about the time that is coming when people will seek death, but they will not be able to find it? Chapter nine of the last book of the New Testament (Revelation), is one of many biblical passages that speak of the times that are coming--the last days of the existence of Earth as we know it. There will be much suffering. Revelation 9:6 says, "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." A true lord rules overs his world, region, and subjects. Why will Saint Death be unable to grant death to those who will desire to die? What's more is that he will flee from them.
And, why should we say that Saint Death is in service to God, considering the fact that in the word of God, death is an enemy of the Lord, an enemy who will be destroyed. We read, "For he (Christ) must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1 Corinthians 15:25-26, 55). Saint Death is revealed as an enemy of God!
Do you know what's going to become of the lord of death? The word of God says, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.... And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
