Sign of the End Times: False Prophets Who Work Miracles
One of the many biblical signs of the end times, and of the approaching second coming of Christ, is rarely taught. It is the sign of the false prophets and false Christs who will come on the scene to work astonishing signs, wonders, and miracles. Jesus, however, issued very serious warnings regarding this often overlooked sign.
"...The disciples came unto him (Jesus) privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect" (KJV, Matthew 24:3-5, 23-24).
False Prophets Before the End of the End Times
The scriptures clearly explain that the second coming of Christ will NOT take place before the coming of false Christs and false prophets who will perform mind-boggling signs, wonders, and miracles. To what type of signs and wonders was the Lord Jesus referring?
While the Bible does not go into specific details when it warns that impostors of the Son of God will perform great signs and wonders, we do know one important thing. Satan always tries to pass himself off as the Lord in order to take the place of God, and to be God, which is what he desired so strongly that he attempted to take the throne of God.
In Isaiah 14:12-14, we read, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH".
As we advance into end times, false prophets and false Christs who will appear on the world scene before the second coming of Christ will have a satanic mindset. This is why they will say that they are prophets of the Most High God and Christs of the Most High. It only makes sense to believe that the signs and wonders that those false prophets and false Christs will do, will mimic the power of God as close as possible.
Satanic Signs and Wonders in End Times
The question we might ask is, "Can Satan indeed give false prophets and false Christs the power to perform signs and wonders that only God can do? We are certain that Satan does not have the power of God. If he did hold such power, he would have dethroned the Most High. Nevertheless, we do well to seriously heed the warnings that scripture gave us regarding satanic signs and wonders to take place before the second coming of Christ. Jesus said that the signs and wonders would be so amazing that even the elect of God could be deceived if they do not listen carefully to the voice of the Holy Spirit. When we read something as powerful as that warning, we know that whatever those lying miracles are, they definitely will appear to be things that only God can do.
Can the Devil Do That!
So, when we read the truth that the Lord is the only one who commands the weather (Psalm 107:29), are we to think that false prophets and false Christs will control weather in end times? Remember, when Jesus rebuked the storm and it obeyed, the apostle Peter and the others knew that he was no ordinary man (Mark 4:39-41). Will the same be said of the apostles of false Christs? Will they also rebuke the weather and see it obey their command? Will they do something else that is unique to the power of God--resurrect the dead?
Because the scriptures make it plain that Satan cannot do the things that God can, we find no scriptural support for saying that end times false Christs will do what the real Christ did. However, we do believe that the signs and wonders that they will perform will be so astonishing that it will APPEAR that they have the power of God, which will allow them to pass as God.
There are two things to keep in mind when discussing satanic signs and wonders. Just like magic tricks, however real will appear, are a lie, because they are not truth. Satanic signs and wonders are also a lie. We read, "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and LYING wonders. And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness" (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).
A most important truth that is so often attacked in these end times is the truth that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. To believe in a Christ who is not divine is to believe in a false Christ. Believe the truth now. Otherwise, you might find yourself blinded to it later. We offer a variety of very easy-to-read articles that destroys the lie that Christ, the Son of God, was just a prophet, but not one of the three person of the triune God.
Based on true events, The Third Man by Angela Sheffield, brings the Bible up close and personal as the characters face real issues of life: Betrayal, deceit, romance, bitterness, anger against God, hopelessness, will power, perplexity, triumph, unforgiveness, mental illness, and the "Alcohol made me do it" excuse.
