The second chapter of the book of II Kings is the part of the story of Elijah and Elisha with which we are dealing. Probably the most interesting thing we learn is that Elisha received a double portion of Elijah's spirit, who was taken up to heaven. This is one of the main, if not the main, biblical passage that is used to support the belief that soul transfer, also known as spirit transfer, or walk-ins, is actually a Christian concept with biblical support.
When Elisha took up the mantle of Elijah, he began doing the miraculous things that the great prophet of God had done. Does this mean that Elisha truly did receive a double portion of Elijah's spirit? Or, are we to think that Elisha went astray from God's word and began practicing what some Christians consider to be a part of the occult--soul transfer and soul exchange?
If spirit transfer actually took place between Elijah and Elisha, would this not be biblical proof of reincarnation? After all, belief in karma calls for belief in the ability for a person's spirit to continue living in another body after the body in which the spirit lived has passed on. The Word of God tells us that the doctrine of reincarnation is a falsehood. The same Word of God, however, also tells us that Elisha received a double portion of Elijah's spirit. How do believers in Christ reject reincarnation and explain what took place between Elijah and Elisha in the second chapter of II Kings?
Teachings on soul transfer are a lie from the enemy. The spirit of one person cannot enter the body of another. Learn the biblical truths that open our eyes to what really took place when Elisha took up the mantle of his mentor, Elijah, and received a double portion of his spirit.
This Bible study of a little more than one thousand words includes all of the Scriptures needed to understand what happened with the spirit of Elijah. Readers are also highly encouraged to answer the five review questions based on the scriptures that are used to explain what the Lord did when he allowed Elisha to take up the mantle of Elijah to have the spirit of Elijah.
Our Bible study can be used by individuals as well as groups for in-depth study and lively discussions. Learn to answer the hard questions about the Bible. Learn to refute the crafty New Age teachings that are put forth by false prophets who desperately seek to align themselves with followers of the true Christ, the Son of God, and one of the three persons of God.

In response to the third paragraph's last question, I don't know. Maybe "double portion" means different than some think. Not the soul of Elijah. What are the Hebrew words translated "double portion"?
Why would we want to switch souls? God assigned each soul to it's own body. One soul for each body, and one body for each soul. Each body (person) was assigned a soul by God, and one body can't take a different soul. The soul that God gave can't be transferred a different body.
