How to Receive Gods Forgiveness
Have you felt the need to receive God's forgiveness for some mistake you made? Welcome to the club. Surely throughout the course of our life there definitely will be many times when we will seek God's forgiveness. Because as sinful humans we will continually make mistakes that are offensive to our Heavenly Father.
When We Have a Guilty Conscience
The Bible tells of various men who committed serious sins and whose conscience tormented them when they came to realize that their offenses against their God were grave. A well known case is king David, who committed adultery with Bathsheba and plotted the death of Uriah, her husband. David was so remorseful that he wrote: "When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah." (Psalm 32:3-5).
Just like David, our conscience might convict us and make us feel terribly bad, especially if the failures are serious or recurring. These are the times when we seek God's forgiveness so we can feel better. The good news is that our loving Heavenly Father is a God of forgiveness. The Holy Scriptures confirm: "...The LORD, the LORD, God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin..." (Exodus 34:6,7). So, when our heavenly Father perceives genuine repentance in our heart, he is willing to forgive us.
Can We Receive God's Forgiveness for Serious Sins?
Many people, because of how serious their sins are or because they keep committing them, end up thinking that it's unlikely that God would forgive them. If you've ever felt that way, take courage, you can receive God's forgiveness. Let's take a look at an example that will confirm that.
King Manasseh was a monarch of whom the Bible says, "...he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger" (2 Chron. 33:6). The scriptures name idolatry, the murder of his children by sacrificing them to false gods, spiritism, and witchcraft among other grave sins. Do you believe this man who, "wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger" could some day receive God's forgiveness? This is what the Bible says once Manasseh reaped the consequences of his actions: "And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he WAS God. Come now and let us reason together, saith the LORD; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (2 Chron. 33:12-18, Isaiah 1:18).
When Manasseh repented of his grave sins and humbled himself, as we read in this passage, he received God's forgiveness, and in addition he was restored as king in Jerusalem.
How to Receive God's Forgiveness
How then can we receive the forgiveness of God for our sins? First, there must be genuine repentance, sincere sorrow knowing that our failure offended God. Second, we must strive to not repeat the offense. This shows that our sorrow is for real. Finally, we must open our hear to God and tell him in prayer that we are truly sorry, that we are willing to change our ways and that we want him to forgive us our sins by the blood of, and in the name of Christ. If we do this, we can rest assured that the God of forgiveness will remove our transgressions "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12, Acts 3:19, 1 Peter 3:18).

He has completed coursework in the study of the Scriptures and has attended dozens of Bible conventions. He has been a public speaker for more than a decade.
Words from the Author:
"I believe that the Holy Scriptures are the only light that can guide us in these turbulent times. For unlike the incorrect and unstable counsel of flawed man, the Bible contains wisdom from God. And, the difficult times that the human race is experiencing were foretold thousands of years ago en its pages which signify an ever approaching change (2 Timothy 3:1) in which our loving Father will intervene to give life to those who seek him, learn to obey him and to love him" (San Juan 17:3).
