Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is a growing number of people around the world who would welcome to their area a church planter who is moved by God to start a Christian church of the kind that has become rare in the United States--one in which the Spirit of God is sensed upon entering the congregation. There already are numerous Christian churches in virtually every town and city of the United States. So, why is there a need for the services of a church planter in a nation that was founded largely on teachings of the Christian Bible? If there is a problem with existing churches, wouldn't those problems be resolved simply by encouraging revival from spiritual sluggishness rather than seek to start a new church in areas where there are plenty of churches--at least in building and in name? No, they cannot be resolved unless the people are first willing to see the problems as problems.
The church planter who desires to start Spirit filled churches realizes that the principle problem with many of today's churches, particularly in the United States, is not a lack of enthusiasm. The entire agenda of many churches has changed. The prayers, goals, purposes, and agenda of most churches are no longer driven by the Holy Spirit, but by man's will. The Spirit of God creates in the hearts of His people a true desire to see souls saved and delivered. But, many souls are not being saved, and even fewer are being delivered in these days of the great apostasy of the Christian church. Sadly, there are many things that continue to successfully interfere with the soul-winning agenda of Christ. The church planter who wants to start a church headed by the will of Christ, not the will of man, has to keep in mind the problems of the modern "church" to avoid allowing them to creep into the newly formed body of believers.
Below is a list of a good number of the issues concerning many churches in the West, particularly the United States. True followers of Christ have abandoned traditional church-going because:
1. many leaders compromise the gospel message for tax breaks, to be "modern" or to be popular
2. worship music is controlled by a praise team, interfering with the freedom that individuals in the congregation should have to strike out with a song as the Spirit guides
2. praise and worship is so loud that it is deafening to the ear as is seen so often in today's churches that are more concerned with being "modern" than with having regard for the physical health of our ears (God is not in the destruction of our hearing.)
3. many leaders fail to preach the goodness AND severity of God thus presenting a "lop-sided" gospel in which ONLY the mercy of God is preached as though there is no such thing as hell fire
4. there is virutually no sound teaching to prepare believers to detect and put down, through scripture, the crafty lies of the anti-Christian New Age Movement that so many try to attach to Christianity
5. the church is failing to teach children to respect the house of God, and to teach them right from wrong based on God's word
6. there is much charismatic preaching by leaders who seek their own glory, to elicit laughter or compliments from the congregation instead of preaching to the glory of God
7. more and more churches are failing to keep the practice of communion, testimonial service, and water baptism BY IMMERSION, and to teach on the dangers of taking communion while living willfully in sin
8. generally, churches never teach on the importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit or encourage believers to seek this much needed gift from God
9. most churches reject the biblical explanation of what it truly means to tithe, which is not always the paying of money nor the paying of a tenth of one's income, as though giving to God must always be in the form of money
10. many churches fail to utterly resist infiltration into the congregation of the anti-Christian New Age movement
While the list could be longer, we believe that these are among the major issues in the Christian church today which have contributed to many churches becoming "watered down".
