Teofila Gottfried book

God Said: Jacob Have I love and Esau have I Hated: The Mystery of Predestination in Romans

Are We Saved by Destiny and Lost by Fate?

This is the important question many people, including Christians, ask when they read scriptures such as Romans 8:29-31, which says, "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he (Jesus) might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified (saved), and whom he justified them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things?"

That is the question: What shall we then say to these things?

Later, in Romans 9:13 we read, "Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated?" Is this confirmation that God condemns the people He hates to eternal damnation while writing salvation into the destiny of those He loves? Not at all! And the Scriptures prove that this is not the case. However, this wonderful understanding of predestination comes only through a thorough understanding of many important, but simple terms the Bible uses to speak on the subject. They include, but are not limited to:

1. Use of the word "to know."
2. The foreknowledge of God.
3. The term, "whom he did predestinate".
4. The statement, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated."

This exciting and eye-opening study on predestination goes much further than answering the question of fate and destiny as they relate to salvation. While at least a very basic knowledge of the scriptures is helpful, it is not necessary to understand the powerful, yet amazingly simple explanations put forth in: Saved by Destiny, Lost by Fate?

In addition to dealing with the question of why God said, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated", you will have thorough and satisfying answers to the following questions:

1. Are fate and destiny real?
2. Has everyone been subjected to the power of fate and destiny?
3. Can a person change his destiny and escape his fate?
4. Who is responsible for what a person's fate or destiny is and/or will be?

The above questions are not only raised, they also are answered in a direct, clear and very concise manner, which is wholly based on biblical scripture presented with commentary in plain language.

In addition to answering the question of why God said, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated", the following controversial questions also are raised and thoroughly answered:

1. Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people, and for what purpose were they chosen? Has this not caused strife and division in the world between all nations?

2. The Bible says that God will have mercy and compassion on some people and that on others He will harden (make more stubborn) against His Word. Nevertheless, we also read in the Bible He will find fault with those He hardened. How does such behavior agree with the Holy Bible, which teaches that God is love and mercy?

3. The Bible says that God said, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated." What does this mean? Can a loving God really hate one of His creatures?

Finally, the controversial "once saved always saved" doctrine is dealt with from the viewpoint of those who support it, and those who oppose it. Learn why there is confusion and disagreement among Christians surrounding this doctrine. Does the Bible give a direct answer? If it does, why is there so much confusion?

Saved by Destiny, Lost by Fate? leaves no room for the insertion or influence of personal opinion. It simply allows the Word of God to teach, and to give precise answers to these extremely important and legitimate questions about God and His Word--answers which God wants you to have!

After most sections in this book you will find study questions to help reinforce learning. We strongly urge you to take the time to answer ALL of the study questions. This greatly accelerates learning, and reinforces the material.
