In her book, Magia Blanca (White Magic), author Ileana Abrev not only offers a definition of magic, she also explicitly explains how to work various white magic spells. She speaks of taping into the secrets to attaining love, romance, health, prosperity, peace, favor with others, and even protection from one's enemies. The casting of spells of white magic viewed from a Christian or biblical perspective might begin with the biblical definition of all types of magic. If we did this, we would quickly see that the author's definition of white magic is very different from the one given in the word of God. But, let's take a look at white magic from a viewpoint that is NOT based on the Christian Bible, but rather on the foundation of critical thinking.
White Magic Spells: The Unanswered Questions
It is understandable that people are searching for ways to make life on Earth more bearable and to enjoy at least some happiness while alive. However, it can sometimes be dangerous to become so desperate to change a bad situation that we fail to use our God-given common sense, which is a form of critical thinking. This is exactly what we will do as we take a brief look at the "power" of white magic spells. We quickly see that there are no answers for many legitimate questions that arise.
White Magic Spells to Resolve Problems
In her book on white magic, Ileana Abrev provides instructions for casting spells for many different problems and issues. Among them is a spell for obtaining protection from evil and for putting enemies to flight. The spells involve the lighting of candles, the use of herbs, and the pronunciation of certain words. The author, in her introduction, explains that, ever since she was a child, she has had a profound knowledge of Santería, a type of magic that originated in Africa. Santería is now known in Cuba, the author's country of birth, as Lucumí.
Do we not ever question why the African practitioners of magic were not able to make the enemies who enslaved them go away? Where were their white magic spells when they needed them most? Do we tell the children who live in crime infested neighborhoods around the world to learn how to do white magic spells to make bullies, murderers, thieves, and other enemies go away?
These are only a very few of the legitimate questions that can be asked for which practitioners of white magic spells have no answers. If we listen to authors and practitioners who seek to convince people that they can magically fix whatever is wrong in their life, are we not deceiving ourselves? What other conclusions can be drawn?
If we really listen to them, we are being told that there is a magical solution for every problem that we can face. Some might call this living in la la land. But, the true message behind white magic spells is that man has control of his destiny, and controls the "energies" of the world to create and destroy according to his own will. This is nothing short of sending the message that man is divine, that he is his own god. Therefore, he has no need to seek to be obedient to another god, including the Lord God, his Creator.
Let's take a very brief look at what the word of God says about the workers of magic? Notice that the scriptures do not in any way differentiate between black, white, gray, red, or any other color of magic. Therefore, white magic spells are the same as black, red, gray, and any other color of spells in the eyes of God.
The scripture of Galatians 5:19-21 enumerate some of the works of the flesh (sins) in the eyes of God. In the list is witchcraft. No distinction is made for black, white, gray, red, or any other color of witchcraft. The practice of any and all types of magic is defiance against reliance upon God.
